Academy Newsletter Interview - September 2019

At two-years old, Academy Member Ava Grace Cooper was dancing her heart into a life of performing.  Now the Award Winner from Vancouver, BC is finishing her fifth Season on a hit Hallmark show, and shares what she loves about acting.

I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old and I’m currently in Ballet, Competitive Jazz, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop.  I’ve also played soccer since I was 5 years old. I also sing a lot.  I’ve been singing since I learned how to talk!  Now I do voice lessons and Guitar lessons when I have time.
I really love meeting new cast, crew and directors.  They have always been kind, welcoming and generous.  I also love getting to change myself into someone I’m not.  From makeup, to hair, to wardrobe ... it’s always so fun!
Some of my noteworthy projects are Edge of Seventeen, Miracle Season, When Calls The Heart (Seasons 3 - 7), A Summer Romance and others.  I was able to make great new friends and also work with my brother in a few of these projects.  On A Summer Romance I got to work with Erin Krakow from the When Calls The Heart series that I’m on and I absolutely love working with her!  A Summer Romance just recently aired on the Hallmark Channel.
Audition Tip: Practice as much as possible and if you don’t have a lot of time, just try your best.  Also research your characters and their personalities and what happened or what’s happening in their life so you can put yourself in their position.  You’ll see that it will become much easier.
On Disappointments: I say to myself “you win some, you lose some” and if you get it, that’s great, but if you don’t, that’s okay too because other people who might not have had as many opportunities, get a chance too.

Look for Ava in the Christmas Special of When Calls the Heart on Dec 25th, and in Season 7 airing early 2020
